If you’re wondering what there is to do at the beach during November, the answer is … a lot.
How to Plan the Perfect Pawleys Island Getaway in November
Book a Pawleys Island stay in an amazing property where you can soak in the sun and enjoy walks on the beach. Bring a comfy sweater or sweatshirt, but toss the swimsuit in the suitcase as well. With average daily highs in the mid-60s, folks have been known to take a dip in the ocean even as late as Thanksgiving. Although it may be a brief one.
There is a great lineup of activities to enjoy this time of year.
A favorite fall event is Brew at the Zoo, which takes place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 5 in the field next to the Lowcountry Zoo at Brookgreen Gardens in Murrells Inlet. Come out to taste some amazing beers while enjoying music. There will also be several food vendors on hand. The cost is $50 for non-members and $25 for designated drivers.
Two events take place on Nov. 12 to support the Family Justice Center of Georgetown and Horry Counties. First up is the 29th Guy Osborne Memorial Turtle Strut 5K/8K from 8 to 10 a.m. in Pawleys Island. Runners start at Pawleys Island Nature Park and head south on Myrtle Avenue alongside Pawleys Island Creek. Whether you run the 5K or 8K, you get a scenic and flat course. The entry fee is $35.
After you work up an appetite, head to the 10th Taste of Georgetown takes place from 12:30 to 3 p.m. on Nov. 12 in the historic downtown. About 2,000 people come out each year to enjoy cuisine from area restaurants and live music.
Get in the spirit of the season at the Pawleys Island Holiday Market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20 at 13707 Ocean Highway. More than 60 vendors will be on hand with food, handmade items, gifts, Christmas decorations, jewelry, and more. Santa will be on hand for free pictures and children’s activities include a bounce house and face painting.
Night of a Thousand Candles, one of the region’s most beloved holiday traditions, starts on Nov. 26 at Brookgreen Gardens. More than 2,700 hand-lit candles and millions of sparkling lights illuminate the paths where you can walk with a warm cup of cider while listening to holiday music. The event takes place from 4-9 p.m. on Thursdays through Sundays through Jan. 1, 2023.
That’s just for starters. Rent a bike from VayK Gear to get around the island on two wheels. Or bring the clubs and play a round of golf at one of the area’s premier courses.
Plenty of local restaurants are open for Thanksgiving Day as well. Make this the year you start a new tradition with a Hammock Coast holiday.
