6 Reasons to Visit the Hammock Coast During Winter

Ditch the snow for sand this winter with a vacation to South Carolina’s Hammock Coast. If you think the beach is just for summer, think again! There are plenty of activities on Pawleys Island and Litchfield Beach to keep you busy during the winter months, which don’t get that cold.

Usher in the Holidays

First, you have a stocking full of holiday events throughout December. The Winyah Auditorium in Georgetown hosts the Charleston Christmas Show on Dec. 3. Several events take place on Dec. 4, including the Christmas Lighted Boat Parade along the harbor walk in Georgetown, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. is Atalaya Christmas Celebration in Huntington Beach State Park with a $5 admission and craft vendors, baked goods, and entertainment. In Murrells Inlet, the Christmas Tree lighting is set from 4-7 p.m. on Dec. 4, and the parade rolls at 3 p.m. on Dec. 5.

Great Golf

Second, with high temps hitting the 60 and sunny days, swing by one of the local golf courses for 18 holes. View the True Blue Golf Club from our two-bedroom 21F Tee Time property. The True Blue Golf Club ranks among “The Top resorts in North America for a Buddies Trip” by Golf magazine. True Blue is known for vast fairways, undulating greens, and impressive elevation changes. There’s also an 18-acre practice facility, along with the Steve Dresser Golf Academy, to help you improve your game. True Blue is part of the Waccamaw Golf Trail, as is Pawleys Plantation & Country Club, Founders Club at Pawleys Island, and Litchfield Country Club.

Natural Beauty

Getting outside doesn’t have to mean recreation like golf and tennis. Take a hike at Huntington Beach State Park or ride a bike along the Waccamaw Neck Bikeway. From the marshes to the beaches to the creeks, this area offers the ultimate natural escape. The mild winter weather makes it a fantastic time to explore the stunning scenery and wildlife.

Spectacular Fare

A vacation may only be as good as the food you enjoy. Fortunately, the area boasts a lot of delicious restaurants offering an array of coastal cuisine. Cozy up to the bar at Local Eat Drink Celebrate in Hammock Shops Village. The place radiates a Lowcountry history with old brickwork and wooden beams for a warm atmosphere. Sip a Spanish coffee while you enjoy a shrimp basket or crab cakes. Chive Blossom Restaurant & Bar prepares Southern classics with Mediterranean, French and Asian influences. Then, there’s Cafe Piccolo, Perrone’s Restaurant & Bar, and Bistro 217. It’s a long list of excellent restaurants, but try to get to as many as you can.

Top Place for Snowbirds

Pawleys Island and the Hammock Coast welcome winter visitors with a laidback, slow-paced lifestyle. What’s better than waking up with a cup of coffee overlooking a beautiful view or sipping a glass of wine while watching a spectacular sunset? Pawleys Island offers plenty to do, as well as a beautiful place to do nothing.
