Get set for a star-spangled holiday with an Independence Day in South Carolina’s charming coastal communities.
Fourth of July Family Fun on the Hammock Coast
Book your stay in a classic bungalow, creekside home or condo tucked away on the 17th fairway. The fun begins when you arrive at the beach, but several events keep the patriotic spirit flowing.
Kick things off when the Pawleys Island Concert Band Sax Ensemble performs at 10 a.m. on July 2 during the morning service at Pawleys Island Chapel.
Roll with the 55th 4th of July Parade on Pawleys Island on Tuesday, July 4. Applications are available at Town Hall, 323 Myrtle Ave., to participate in the parade - whether in a boat, car or flatbed truck, all brightly decorated in red, white, and blue. The parade starts at 10 a.m., and trophies are awarded in several categories.
The 40th Murrells Inlet boat parade sets sail at 11 a.m. at the Marshwalk, when festively decorated boats cruise the inlet. Hang around to enjoy live music, food, and drinks throughout the day.
After the parades, make your way to the beach to watch the Salute From the Shore, which begins at 1 p.m. on July 4. Wave a flag or banner to welcome the two F-16s from Shaw Air Force Base, a C-17 from Charleston Air Force Base, civilian-owned and vintage aircraft. The flyover should be over Pawleys Island just after 1 p.m., so don’t be late, or you’ll miss the planes.
Hear patriotic music at the The July 4th Concert at the Kaminski House Museum in Georgetown, which takes place at 6:30 p.m. and features members of the Indigo Choral Society. Bring your favorite snacks and bring your lawn chairs to enjoy patriotic music.
Then it’s time for the highlight of the holiday: The ginormous Fourth of July fireworks. Arrive early for a good seat at the MarshWalk, which hosts its 20-minute, awe-inspiring display at 10 p.m.
Of course, you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy all those other Fourth favorites like barbecue, ice cream, and beach time.
