Count the Nine Top Winter Activities on the Coast

Are you planning a Pawleys Island visit this winter? It’s a delightful time to enjoy the peace and tranquility of one of the South’s most historic getaways.

Browse the more than 20 stores located at Hammock Shops Village. It’s a fun day for the entire family, with locally owned shops that sell apparel, shoes, gourmet items, Southern pecans, gifts and island souvenirs. The playground keeps the kids busy, and crafters demonstrate their talents.

Go birdwatching at Huntington Beach State Park with its more than 300 species of birds. Visit the Nature Center at the park to learn the best sites for viewing. Bring binoculars and your birding journal.

The state park is a geocaching site, and the two-mile Sandpiper Pond Trail is ideal for hiking.

The Myrtle Beach Polar Plunge takes place from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 27 at the Sands Ocean Club, 9550 Shore Drive in Myrtle Beach. This annual event is a fundraiser for the Special Olympics of South Carolina. Register here and raise a minimum of $50. Plunges take place on the half-hour starting at 10:30 a.m. and each participant receives a T-shirt.

Snap photos of Pawleys Island Chapel. One of the most Insta-worthy spots on the Carolina coast, the quaint chapel sits on the marsh side of Pawleys Island. While services take place during the summer, the chapel makes a spectacular photography subject in winter.

See the Art Deco: Definite an Era sculpture exhibition, which opens on Jan. 27 at Brookgreen Gardens

Play a round of golf. Many of our rentals sit directly on the True Blue Golf Club. The dramatic, fun layout is known for its vast fairways, undulating greens, and impressive elevation changes.

Take your own food tour with some of the Grand Strand’s most mouth-watering restaurants. From exquisitely-prepared Italian dishes at Malibu’s of Surfside Beach to the electric fusion of seafood and French cuisine at Chive Blossom in Pawleys Island, there is no shortage of menu items to taste.

There is so much to love about Pawleys Island in the winter. Book your rental now, then plan your escape.
