5 Reasons to Spend Christmas on the Coast in S.C.

Christmas on the Coast

Make Brookgreen Gardens your first holiday stop. On Dec. 6-9; 13-16 and 20-22, the Gardens come to life amid the soft glow of more than 4,500 hand-lit candles and countless sparkling lights during Nights of a Thousands Can-dles.  Walk the paths with a warm cup of cider, hear the sounds of holiday music, carolers singing and celebrate the season with family and friends.

Second, get in the Christmas spirit with special holiday shows at the Alabama Theatre and the Carolina Opry, both in Myrtle Beach. “The South’s Grandest Christmas Show” at the Alabama Theatre is a local tradition for many fami-lies during November and December. At the Carolina Opry, “The Christmas Show of the South” opens its 33rd sea-son with enchanting holiday performances.

Third, take a Candlelight Tour of The Kaminski House Museum in Georgetown in all its holiday splendor from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13. In addition, Family Night is the closeout event for the “Designer's Showhouse: Dressed for the Season!” at the Museum on Saturday, Dec. 22 from 4-6 p.m. Family Night features a Candy Cane Express (a decorated tour-tram), hot cocoa, cookies and a holiday scavenger hunt for children. Families may also view the rooms of the Kaminski House Museum dressed for the season. Cost is $10 for adults/members and $15 for adults/nonmembers. Admission for children 12 and over with adults is $5 and children under 12 are admitted free of charge.

Fourth, celebrate Yule with the Santa Crawl at the Marshwalk at Murrells Inlet. Festivities begin at 5 p.m. on Dec. 15. Enjoy holiday drinks and festive flavors with the dinner specials at the eight restaurants at Marshwalk. The Marshwalk’s Wonderland of Lights, which starts Nov. 17, makes it all the more magical. If you’re in Murrells Inlet for New Year’s Eve, come out to the MarshWalk to welcome in 2019 with music, drinks, dinner and a fireworks show at midnight.

Enjoy holiday music with events hosted by the Pawleys Island Concert Band. On Dec. 15, take in Christmas at the Lakes at Litchfield; Dec. 16, it’s Christmas at Trinity Presbyterian in Surfside Beach; Dec. 18 the XV Annual Celebra-tion of Christmas at the Pawleys Island Community Center; and on Dec. 22, head to Murrells Inlet Presbyterian Church for a Tuba Christmas.
